The Rejection Scanner

"This rejection proves what I always suspected about myself." After any real or perceived rejection, RS amplifies the replaying: every flaw gets entered into evidence, the conclusion (fundamentally unwanted) is reached before the review is done. Eisenberger (2003, Science) found rejection activates the same neural pain pathways as physical injury -- the loop runs because the pain is real, not because the verdict is accurate.
